Britain’s beer and pub industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic and faces a more challenging time than it has ever experienced in the past.
Pubs have been closed since late March and when they start to open in July they will do so with significant alterations to ensure they are safe. Whilst beer continues to be sold through off licenses, supermarkets and direct from the brewers themselves, when the pubs closed, breweries lost 70% of the value of the market for beer they brew. Only time will tell the full impact countrywide pub closures and ongoing social distancing will have on pubs & breweries.
Right now, we are working with pubs, breweries and industry bodies to help the industry survive these tough times and get back on its feet.
Brewing and pubs are two sides of the same coin, and it is the first time in our countries’ history that one has had to function without the other – both have suffered and need support.
